Summer in Moab can be hot, but it’s still a great time to be here. We love getting out on early morning rides and then spending the afternoon out on the river or up in the mountains. Moab is quieter in the summer months, making it a great time to beat the crowds. Is your family planning a visit to Arches and Canyonlands National Parks on a summer road trip? We would love to take you out mountain biking while in Moab!

In the summer, we adjust our pickup schedule to accommodate for the increased temperatures. We start our day tours when it is still cool in the morning and finish up just as the temperatures are starting to get hot. We will drop you back in Moab just in time for lunch. Then, you will have the whole afternoon and evening to relax at your hotel pool, jump in the Colorado River or drive up into the mountains for some cooler temperatures.

What are some of our favorite summer mountain bike tours?

[Courthouse Tour](https://rimtours.com/tours/courthouse-loop/)

This is the perfect introduction to mountain biking and our most family friendly. We will take you on some of the most beginner friendly trails in Moab, a combination of smooth singletrack and scenic doubletrack trails. We will ride out to viewpoints that overlook Arches National Park and get to experience some of Moab’s famous slickrock.

[Dead Horse Point](https://rimtours.com/tours/dead-horse-point-singletrack/)

A fan favorite spot to ride, the trails at Dead Horse Point State Park are a step up from our Courthouse Tour. It is the perfect second day of riding if you do one of our Courthouse Tours. Dead Horse is higher in elevation than the Moab valley, so it is a few degrees cooler. Seeing the views of the surrounding canyons in the early morning light is spectacular. The trails are fun singletrack that are mostly smooth and flowy, interspersed with small technical challenges. Did we mention the views? Dead Horse sits on a mesa above the Colorado River canyons and has some amazing, panoramic views. We will stop at our favorite points to enjoy the views and take pictures.

[The Whole Enchilada](https://rimtours.com/tours/whole-enchilada-hazzard/)

The top of the Whole Enchilada, Burro Pass, officially opens up on July 1st. We like this iconic tour as a late summer option when the temperatures start to drop a bit down in the desert. The top of the Whole Enchilada is nice and cool, but the bottom can get quite toasty in the middle of the summer. If you are a faster rider who wants to do this ride mid summer, make sure to pack plenty of water and follow our guides for the quickest lines down this technical and challenging ride. If it starts getting hot, we may drop down the shorter Raptor Route, a fun and flowy ride that has become a favorite with Moab locals.

[Klondike Bluff E-Bike Tour](https://rimtours.com/tours/klondike-ebike-tour/)

E-bikes can make quicker work of rides, which can help during the summer months to enjoy a ride but not be out when it starts to get hot. We love taking them out to Klondike Bluff, where there is plentiful slickrock to ride. We will stop to see some cool things along the way like dinosaur footprints, a giant crack in the Slickrock expanse and maybe even some views into Arches National Park.

What else can you do after your tour? Here are some of our favorite things:

  • Head to one of the boat ramps along the Colorado River for a refreshing swim
  • Visit [Mill Creek](https://share.google/bmphxdCxNQGb580Gy) to do a short hike to a swimming hole, complete with waterfall
  • Drive the [La Sal Mountain Loop road](https://www.fs.usda.gov/r04/manti-lasal/recreation/la-sal-mountain-loop-state-scenic-backway). There are plenty of places to stop and hike or take in the views along the way. The air temperatures will keep dropping the higher up you go.
  • Head to the [Moab Museum](https://moabmuseum.org/) to learn about local history and see their rotating exhibits
  • Cruise the shops along main street to purchase locally made goods and plenty of Moab souvenirs.
  • Take an afternoon break (maybe a nap?) and then head out in the evening for some star gazing. Moab has a Dark Sky Community designation, making it a great place to see the stars. Drive a short way out of town to the [Sand Flats Recreation Area](https://www.grandcountyutah.net/287/Sand-Flats-Recreation-Area) or into Arches National Park for even less light pollution and more chance to see the milky way!
