Private: 2024 Bike Sale – Santa Cruz Mountain Bikes

Rim Tours sells its professionally maintained Santa Cruz rental fleet each fall at significant discounts off retail, including Hightower, Tallboy, 5010, and Heckler e-bike models. These bikes have been meticulously cared for by our full-time mechanics throughout the riding season, and each one ships fully tuned with a lifetime Santa Cruz frame warranty. If you rode one of our bikes on a guided tour in Moab and fell in love, this is your chance to take that same ride home.

Why Buy a Used Santa Cruz from Rim Tours?

Not all used bikes are created equal. Rim Tours is an authorized Santa Cruz dealer, and we treat our rental fleet like the high-performance machines they are. When new bikes arrive each January, our mechanics immediately remove and save the factory grips and tires, protect the frame with clear protection tape, and store original packaging for future shipping. Throughout the season, every bike gets cleaned and tuned after every single use. Pivots are serviced, suspension is maintained, and parts are replaced proactively rather than reactively.

This means you are not buying a beaten-down rental bike. You are buying a professionally maintained machine that has been ridden on Moab’s world-class trails like Slickrock, Navajo Rocks, and the Moab Brand Trails by guests who were supervised and supported by expert guides the entire time.

What Happens Before Your Bike Ships

Every bike in the sale goes through a comprehensive pre-ship inspection and tune-up:

  • Frame inspection — Protective tape removed, frame polished clean, inspected for any issues
  • Brakes — Bled fresh, pads replaced if less than 50% life remaining
  • Suspension — Fork and shock fully serviced, pivots inspected, bearings replaced as needed
  • Wheels — Trued and bearings serviced or replaced
  • Finishing kit — Factory tires and grips reinstalled, saddle replaced if damaged
  • Final check — Test ridden and signed off by our head mechanic
  • Shipping — Repacked and shipped in the original Santa Cruz box

Because Rim Tours is an authorized Santa Cruz dealer, your new-to-you bike carries a full lifetime frame warranty against manufacturing defects. That is a level of assurance you will not find buying used from a private seller.

The 2024 Models Available

Santa Cruz Hightower — The workhorse of our fleet and the most popular choice among our guests. With 29-inch wheels and 140mm of rear travel, the Hightower handles everything from Moab slickrock to flowy desert singletrack. It strikes the ideal balance between climbing efficiency and downhill capability, which is exactly why we chose it for our diverse trail offerings.

Santa Cruz Tallboy — Built for riders who love covering ground. The Tallboy features 120mm of VPP rear travel on 29-inch wheels, making it fast and efficient on longer rides. If you rode one on our Klonzo or Courthouse Loop tours and loved the speed, this is your bike.

Santa Cruz 5010 — The fun bike. With 130mm of rear travel and nimble 27.5-inch wheels, the 5010 is the most playful and responsive option in our fleet. It excels on technical terrain and tighter trails where quick handling matters most.

Santa Cruz Heckler and Heckler SL (e-bikes) — Our e-bike fleet has been growing in popularity, and these Hecklers are fantastic for riders who want pedal assist without sacrificing the Santa Cruz ride quality. The Heckler SL (Superlight) is notably lighter and rides more like a traditional mountain bike.

How to Reserve Your Bike

Reserving is simple: place a $100 deposit to secure your preferred model and size. Bikes ship beginning in November, and we will contact you for final payment when yours is ready. Pay final balance via e-check through our online portal and you will earn free shipping. Credit card payments include a flat rate of $100 for pedal bikes or $150 for e-bikes.

Availability is limited and bikes sell on a first-come, first-served basis. Popular sizes in the Hightower and Heckler tend to go first.

Frequently Asked Questions

How many seasons have the rental bikes been ridden?

Each bike in the sale has been ridden for one season (roughly March through October). We turn over our entire fleet annually to ensure our guests always ride current-model bikes.

Do the bikes come with a warranty?

Yes. As an authorized Santa Cruz dealer, every bike we sell carries Santa Cruz’s full lifetime frame warranty against manufacturing defects. Component warranties vary by manufacturer.

Can I test ride a bike before buying?

If you are in Moab, absolutely. Contact our shop to arrange a test ride. Otherwise, the best way to experience our bikes is to book a guided tour — many of our bike sale customers are past guests who already know exactly which model they want.

What sizes are typically available?

We stock a range of sizes across all models to accommodate our diverse guest base. Small, Medium, Large, and XL are typically available, but popular sizes sell out quickly. Contact us early to check availability for your size.

How does shipping work?

Bikes ship in their original Santa Cruz boxes via ground freight. Free shipping with e-check payment; $100 flat rate (pedal bikes) or $150 (e-bikes) for credit card payments. Bikes typically arrive within 5-7 business days depending on your location.
